The gun wz.99 (Type 99) is a Japanese 20mm air cannon from the interwar period and World War II. The weapon was developed just before the outbreak of World War II, and entered service in 1939. Its production was carried out in 1939-1945. The weight of the weapon - depending on the model - ranged from 23.2 to 37.5 kilograms, and the theoretical rate of fire was up to 500 rounds per minute in the 99-2 model. Whereas the initial velocity of the projectile fired from this cannon was up to about 750 m / s. The estimated range of an effective shot oscillated between 800 and 1000 meters. The gun wz.99 (Type 99) was essentially an extension of the 20mm Oerlikon FF cannon. A company called for this purpose was responsible for the production of these plots Dainihon Heiki KK. The first, mass-produced version of this cannon was wz.99-1, which was mounted both permanently and on mobile stands. Interestingly, as many as four models of this plot have appeared. Its modernization was the wz.99-2 gun, the weight of which increased compared to the wz.99-1 gun. However, the initial velocity of the projectile was improved, although at the cost of theoretical rate of fire. The cannon, in both its versions, it was used by many Japanese Navy airplanes, including: Kawanishi H6K, Kawanishi H8K, Nakajima J1N and Yokosuka P1Y.
