HMAS Vampire (D68), originally named HMS Vampire / HMS Wallace, was initially a British, and then an Australian destroyer from the period: World War I, Interwar and World War II. The keel for this unit was laid in 1916, the launch took place in May 1917, and the entry into service took place in September of the same year. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 95.1 meters and a width of 9 meters. The displacement reached approx. 1,450 tons, and the maximum speed was approx. 34 knots. The armament at the time of the launch consisted of, among other things, four 102 mm guns or two triple 533 mm torpedo tubes.

HMS Vampire was one of the Type V destroyers. The ships of this type were designed with the best possible performance and with relatively strong artillery armament. They also focused on new technological solutions used on other British destroyers of the First World War and the period preceding it. Undoubtedly, when they entered service - from 1917 - they were modern and successful destroyers, but with time their combat value decreased. HMS Vampire took a limited part in World War I, and in 1933 it was transferred to the Australian Navy, keeping its name. He began his combat route in World War II, already as HMAS Vampire, in the Mediterranean Sea by taking part in the naval battle in the region of Calabria (July 1940) and by participating in operations in the region of Libya and Greece in the period 1940-1941. The destroyer also took part in naval operations in the Crete area during the German landing on this island in the summer of 1941. At the end of that year, it was transported to the Indian Ocean. HMAS Vampire was sunk by the Japanese air force on April 9, 1942.
